If you’re in Ocala and even remotely craving Mediterranean food, The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill is one of those places that goes beyond just “good”—it’s genuinely memorable. This is the kind of spot where the flavors are so dialed in that you leave already thinking about what you’re ordering next time.

Location & Setting

You’ll find this restaurant in the Market Street at Heath Brook area, one of the nicer, more built-up parts of Ocala. It’s easy to get in and out of, with plenty of parking, which already makes it a win for a casual lunch or dinner.

Inside, it’s clean, bright, and modern without feeling sterile. There’s a balance between fast-casual convenience and sit-down quality. You can come in with kids, meet a friend, or grab something quick—and it fits all of those situations without feeling out of place.

The Food – Where This Place Really Wins

A plate featuring grilled meat skewers topped with chopped onions and herbs, served with lemon wedges, roasted potato wedges, a small bowl of white sauce, and a piece of flatbread.

Let’s get into it, because this is where they absolutely shine.

I ordered the lamb skewers, and they were hands down one of the best things I’ve had in a while. The meat was incredibly tender, cooked perfectly, and seasoned in a way that actually enhances the flavor instead of masking it. You can tell it’s not rushed or thrown together—it’s done right.

And then the lemon potatoes. These deserve their own moment. They’re soft, almost buttery on the inside with just enough crisp on the outside, and they’re soaked in this bright, citrusy flavor that cuts through the richness of everything else on the plate. They’re not an afterthought side—they’re a highlight.

My son got the gyro, and it was exactly what you hope for but rarely get. The pita was warm and soft, the meat was flavorful and not greasy, and the toppings were fresh. The tzatziki brought everything together with that cool, creamy finish. It was one of those meals where you find yourself reaching over for “just one more bite.”

A Deeper Look at the Menu

One of the best things about this place is how well-rounded the menu is. Whether you’re craving something hearty or something lighter, there’s a lot to work with.

Signature Plates & Souvlaki

  • Lamb, chicken, steak, and shrimp skewers
  • Plates typically come with pita, tzatziki, a fresh Greek salad, and your choice of side
  • You can also do combination platters if you want to try a little of everything

Gyros & Handhelds

  • Traditional beef/lamb gyro
  • Chicken gyro
  • Falafel pita for a vegetarian option
  • Everything is layered with fresh vegetables, feta, and house-made sauces

Bowls & Lighter Options

  • Rice bowls with your choice of protein
  • Greek salads topped with chicken, gyro meat, or shrimp
  • Great option if you want something filling but not heavy

Sides That Actually Matter

  • Lemon potatoes (non-negotiable in my opinion)
  • Feta fries with a salty, tangy kick
  • Rice pilaf
  • Fresh pita with dips like hummus and tzatziki

Appetizers & Mezze

  • Spanakopita (flaky and savory)
  • Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves)
  • Hummus and other classic spreads
  • Falafel that’s crispy on the outside and soft inside

Desserts

  • Baklava layered with honey and nuts
  • Rice pudding
  • Baklava ice cream for something a little different

Kids Options

  • Smaller gyro plates
  • Chicken tenders
  • Simple, approachable meals that still keep the same quality

Portion Size & Value

You’re not leaving hungry. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, and everything feels balanced. Pricing sits comfortably in that mid-range—typically around $12–$20 depending on what you order—but for the quality and freshness, it absolutely feels worth it.

Flavor & Ingredient Quality

What really sets this place apart is the freshness. Nothing tastes pre-made or like it’s been sitting. The vegetables are crisp, the proteins are cooked to order, and the sauces taste house-made. Even something as simple as pita feels soft and fresh instead of dry or packaged.

There’s also a noticeable balance in the seasoning—nothing is overly salty or heavy. It’s flavorful without feeling weighed down, which makes it easy to eat here regularly without getting tired of it.

Service & Experience

Service is quick and efficient, but still friendly. You’re not waiting forever for your food, but it doesn’t feel rushed either. Orders come out clean, well-presented, and accurate.

It’s also a great spot if you’re dining with kids. The menu is flexible enough that everyone can find something they like, and the environment is relaxed enough that you don’t feel stressed bringing your family in.

Final Thoughts

This place is absolutely to die for, and I don’t say that lightly. Between the perfectly cooked lamb skewers, those incredible lemon potatoes, and how solid the gyro was, it’s easily one of the best casual dining spots in Ocala right now.

It’s flavorful, fresh, consistent, and just overall satisfying in a way that keeps you coming back. If you’re anywhere near Ocala and haven’t tried it yet, this is one you need to add to your list immediately.
